Artifact hunters report encounter near the river.

I interviewed the witness on 28 September 2017. His sighting took place in the fall of 1997 or 1998. He was 16 or 17 years old. The time was around dusk. The temperature was in the 70s.

The witness, his brother and some friends were cave hunting, looking for Native American artifacts and arrowheads. They were in a cave. They had spent 6-7 hrs in the cave. They ate their lunches while hunting arrowheads.

During their time in the cave they found something that resembled a nest. Branches, limbs and pine needles were collected. Animal bones were lying nearby. The cave had a heavy musky smell to it. They were leaving the cave when they noticed rocks were falling from the top of the ridge above the cave. These were some good size rocks. The witness could not tell if the rocks were thrown or pushed. The group started walking down the mountain, stopped and turned around to see what was on top of the ridge; they noticed something moving. It was very tall, reportedly over six feet in height. It had big shoulders, with long, brownish hair. The subject also had a gorilla-shaped head. It was moving in the shadows. The subject was running on two legs down the mountain behind them.

The witness and his brother ran to their pick up truck. The brother seemed pretty frightened because he pulled the door handle of the side of the truck. Their friends ran to their truck. While the group was driving away on the gravel road, the witness’s brother looked out the driver side window. He saw whatever it was that chased them down the mountain was running alongside the truck; it was keeping pace. The truck was going 30-35 mph. Then it quickly cut off the road and went into the woods.

The friends were driving their truck behind them. They called the witness on the CB radio. They wanted to know what was chasing all of them down the mountain, and what could keep pace with the truck on two legs. They quickly ruled out a bear.

There are chicken, hog and cattle farms in the area. This area is very wooded and remote, and has a water and food source. The witness went back to this cave a month later. He found that the Game and Fish Commission had fenced off the cave. The reason is unknown.

I have a relative in the county just west from where this sighting took place. I visited there in July. The witness offered to show me the area the next time I am visiting my relative.

  1. I went in a cave near a citrus farm in Citrus county Florida, it looked like something was eating fruits like oranges in the cave. It looked like something was sleeping in the cave on a pile of palm tree leaves. It smelled musty and musky.

    1. Some witness’ of the Florida “skunk ape” as its called there, say that the Florida Bigfoot is known for its musty and musky odors. And that is why its called the FL skunk ape.

  2. The usual ‘bigfoot hunt’ I’ve seen on TV is a bunch of wanna-be’s making noise (and in bed 2 hours after dark) scaring the crap out of any bigfoot within 5 miles.

    1. LOL, yeah your right. There is a more rational way to hunt Bigfoot than what they do on that Animal Planet show. They should turn those lights off and try to be quiet when they’re going on the night searches for Bigfoot.
